Last month was very memorable for me because I celebrated National Nutrition Month by highlighted four female African American registered dietitians nutritionists making outstanding contributions to the food and nutrition profession AND I made my radio show debut on not 1, not 2 but 3 radio show segments! I felt truly blessed to be asked to share my food and nutrition knowledge on air. Hard work, commitment, dedication, and prayer greatly contributed to this happening. However, I also incorporated the Law of Attraction, a belief that focusing on positive or negative thoughts will bring positive or negative experiences into your life.
My twin sister told me to write down 3 positive experiences and say these statements out loud several days a week. Well, one of the statements were, “I will be a nutrition guest/expert on a radio show.” That’s it. I read this statement out loud for months. I didn’t tell anyone except my sister about my interest in being a guest on a radio show segment.
ACI3 Media radio show segment with me as the guest for National Nutrition Month
Guess what? April Anderson from ACI3 Media reached out to me and we recorded 11 mini radio segments for her Focus on Women show you can listen to on YouTube. She had no idea I wrote this down as one of my positive experiences 5 months earlier. Soon after I received an email from a WCLK Jazz Station radio show host who is also a Fulton Dekalb Hospital Authority (FDHA) employee asking if I wanted to talk about nutrition and diabetes on air. Of course, I said YES! She contacted me because of my contract work with the FDHA. This is why it’s important to be professional, kind, and respectful. My third time as a guest expert at a radio station was based on a referral from the WCLK Jazz Station Operations Manager. He sent my contact information to a different radio show host requiring a registered dietitian to discuss nutrition and cancer.
I was grateful and humbled to have these wonderful opportunities to showcase my nutrition expertise. Are you working hard to reach your goals? If the answer is yes then don’t stop and don’t quit. I didn’t know when I was going to be on a radio show and I didn’t know where. I only knew I had to be prepared to say yes.
Do me a favor and write down the positive experiences you want to happen. Right now. Dream big and believe it will happen.
